Confirmation Retreat
Camp Chestnut RidgeA weekend for Confirmands and Mentors, making stoles, learning more about the vows we take as Methodists and our Sacraments.
We hold our Spring Confirmation Retreat at Camp Chestnut Ridge along with the confirmation classes from other UMC churches in the local area. This is a wonderful opportunity to see the many different ways each church does confirmation yet all coming together with the same common goal; growing closer to God. Each church provides volunteers and leaders to lead different sessions on the vows we take as members to support the ministry of the church through our Prayers, Presence, Gifts, Service, and Witness. Our Confirmands will hear from different youth leaders and pastors all weekend. So cool!!
We will be at camp all weekend through breakfast and worship on Sunday morning.
A detailed packing list and schedule will be provided the week of the retreat!
Some fun things to know about this weekend to help you better prepare are listed below!
Friday dinner plans?
Danny will have all the things for you to make a sandwich at SUMC before we leave (arrive by 4:30) or you can bring your own dinner. We will eat under the pavilion when we arrive at Camp Chestnut Ridge.
What are the sleeping arrangements like?
We split into boys and girls with the leaders. Each cabin or lodge is complete with bunk beds. Bring your twin sheets and/or a sleeping bag with a pillow.
What are the bathrooms like?
Each cabin and lodge have bathrooms with showers and hot(ish) water. Bring your own towels, washcloths, and bath mat or towel to step on when getting out of the shower, and bath shoes.
What is the food like?
Camp Chestnut Ridge is very neat in that they provide 3 full meals each day for everyone. Plenty of really yummy foods and even have an option for those with food allergies. At each meal, there is always a fruit, salad, and protein option.
What do you bring?
Pack as little as you can to get you through the weekend. There isn’t much free time but card games or a soccer ball could be fun. We are outside a good bit of the time so if the weather is cold or rainy pack accordingly. Rainboots, heavier jackets, extra socks, and shoes are good to have if it’s raining (check the weather before you come). We begin worship outside at 7:30 am each morning and it is chilly. It does get dark at night when walking back to the cabin/lodges so a flashlight is helpful. Youth are not allowed on phones during the sessions so a Bible is helpful as they will be asked for Scriptures.
