We have an important and exciting opportunity to view and discuss together the documentary, “White Savior: Racism in the American Church”.

Over the course of the last year, Soapstone has been focusing on the importance of Hospitality. The racial divide between churches in America is an ongoing problem. The documentary will help elucidate the (often hidden) history of the church that created and continues to support strained relations. Soapstone is blessed to be in relationship with Firstborn, our neighbor, through the Soapstone Chapel. Let’s sit down together and learn how to better Honor our neighbor and foster Social Justice.

We invite you to a three-evening event to view and discuss the documentary together. The documentary is only an hour in length. However, it is filmed in chapters of approximately 10 minutes each, so we plan to view 3 chapters in an evening with time to chat in between chapters.

The first meeting will be on Wed., October 2, 7:30pm, at Soapstone in Room 200.

The second meeting will be the week of Oct. 20-26, probably at the Chapel.

The third meeting, ending in a celebration and meal will be held Sat. 11/9 at the Chapel after the Firstborn service there.

People may register their intent to attend here however we will not require prior registration.

Under the overall supervision of our pastors and group leader, facilitators will follow each video with a focused discussion that calls upon each participant to reflect both as an individual and as a member or leader of their group, church or church committee.

We call upon leaders to contact their members and encourage them to take part!

At Soapstone, the lay leaders of the following Councils especially are urged to do so:
Church Council, Adult Council, Children’s Council, Youth Council, Trustees and Missions.
