Pastor’s Book Discussion — Sunday, Aug 6, 6-8 pm, room 200
Join Pastor Mitzi to discuss “Becoming Mrs. Lewis” by Patti Callahan and enjoy a meal $(10). Books are available for purchase, ($15) while they last, in the office.

We will have a ‘ploughman’s lunch’ for our concluding supper. This meal is a summer staple in the U.K. served cold with bread, cheese, ‘pickle’ (chutney), and often with (leftover) meats from the traditional Sunday roast–ham, beef, lamb–with a little ‘salad’ and fruit.

When poet and writer Joy Davidman began writing letters to C. S. Lewis, she was looking for spiritual answers, not love. Everything about New Yorker Joy seemed ill-matched for an Oxford professor and the beloved writer of The Chronicles of Narnia, yet their minds bonded over their letters. In this masterful exploration of one of the greatest love stories of modern times, we meet a brilliant writer, an independent mother who changed the life of a respected author and inspired books that still enchant us. At once an historical novel and a glimpse into a writer’s life, Becoming Mrs. Lewis is above all a love story—a love of literature and ideas and a love between a husband and wife.
