Erin Shiflett
Director Of Youth Ministries
Erin Shiflett is originally from Durham and is a lifelong Methodist. She discovered her love for Methodism and began discerning her call to ministry at her home church, Epworth UMC. As a youth, Erin was deeply involved in church life, serving on Youth Council and participating in Pilgrimage, youth retreats, service projects, and fellowship opportunities—experiences that helped shape who she is today as a Chaplain.
Erin earned a degree in Religion and Peace and Conflict Resolution from Queens University of Charlotte before returning to Durham to earn her M.Div. from Duke University. While at Duke, she also received certificates in Christian Education and Wesleyan Studies, continuing to deepen her love for the Methodist tradition.
Following Duke, Erin completed the Chaplain Residency Program at UNC Hospitals, serving as a Trauma/Surgery Chaplain and Cardiology Chaplain. Her experience in healthcare ministry strengthened her passion for walking alongside people through some of life’s most difficult, meaningful, and sacred moments.
Scouting has also been an important part of Erin’s life. She spent 11 summers working at her local council’s camp and most recently served as Camp Director. Her love of the outdoors, camp ministry, and helping young people discover who they are called to be continues to shape both her life and ministry.
