Mini Grants

Serving ALL

Earlier this year, Pastor Mitzi challenged the Missions Committee to begin using the monies in the designated account for Missions. These monies are not designated for a specific purpose such as Rise Against Hunger, Zoe Empowers, or Methodist Home for Children.

Our Missions Committee has launched a matching program that will match up to $250 to any small group at Soapstone UMC. Small groups can be a Sunday school class, bible study group, supper club, etc. For every group that raises money to donate to a mission organization of their choosing, Soapstone UMC will match up to $250. Between October 2023 and February 2024, the Missions Committee will approve matches totaling $1,500.

The purpose of the matching program is for the Missions Committee to understand better what missions Soapstone UMC members are passionate about.
Please find an application below and turn a completed application to Pastor Jon Tschanz for review by the Missions Committee.

Mini-Grant FAQs

To date, the Missions Committee has approved 3 mini-grants submitted by Soapstone small groups.  The grants are for Carolina Rebuilding Ministry, L’Arche North Carolina, and Methodist Home for Children.  There is still time and money for other small groups to submit mini-grant applications.

Here is a brief description of the 3 mini-grant recipients.

L’Arche North Carolina:   L’Arche North Carolina is a community of belonging for people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities. They seek to transform lives and model a more human society where everyone is valued. They are working toward establishing the first L’Arche residential home in the Triangle area.

Carolina Rebuild Ministry:  Carolina Rebuilding Ministry (CRM) puts faith into action by providing home repairs for low-income homeowners in the northeastern North Carolina counties of Bertie, Chowan, and Washington. CRM makes homes stronger, safer, and healthier. CRM provides transformational service experiences for volunteers.

Methodist Home for Children: Methodist Home for Children (MHC) provides safe, stable homes where children can thrive and live to their full, God-given potential. An MHC home is where children and family are equipped to succeed. MHC builds on strengths, nurturing hopes and goals, and prepare all in their care to shape their own futures.
