All are welcome

Monday, March 23, 7 pm
Whether the concept of Christian Nationalism is completely new to you or something you’ve been curious about for a while, you have an opportunity to explore some new perspectives together with Dr. Lester Ruth when he joins us at Soapstone on Monday, March 23, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

A former pastor in the Texas Annual Conference of the UMC, Dr. Lester Ruth has served as Research Professor of Christian Worship at Duke Divinity School since 2011. He considers himself a pastor with an interest in worship history, who has evolved into a worship historian while maintaining pastoral sensibilities. His research specializes in American evangelical and Pentecostal worship. His goal for the session is to help us learn together, and he will share his three-fold focus on:

  • The long history of Christian Nationalism in prior decades and centuries.
  • The theological and biblical rationales that Christian Nationalists offer for their approach.
  • His work to document the various ways Christian Nationalism expresses itself in worship practices.
This session is designed to be welcoming, informative and open to all – no prior background or knowledge needed.
We would love for you to join us. To make sure we choose a comfortable space for the size of our group, please register by 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25. You’ll receive a follow‑up email the morning of the event with the exact location on the Soapstone UMC campus and any additional details to help you feel at ease participating in this engaging conversation.
