Farewell to Rev. Dr. Jon Tschanz

You’re Invited to a Celebration!

Rev. Dr. Jon Tschanz joined the Soapstone staff on August 15, 2021, as Director of Discipleship and Missions. We cheered him on as he began the process of ordination in the United Methodist Church, becoming a commissioned Elder in summer 2024. And now, we will honor and celebrate him and his many contributions on June 23 at 9:45 am in the Narthex as he prepares to continue ministry in Orlando, Florida. Your presence will make this celebration even more meaningful. (No adult Sunday School will be held on June 23.)  

He has been an able pastoral leader, preaching and serving as liturgist in Sunday worship and guiding the ministries of our Adult Council and Missions teams. In terms of Adult Ministry, he helped usher the church out of a season of pandemic, re-launching Supper Clubs, starting a Men’s small group, launching the “Life in the Middle” and “Making Sense of the Bible” Sunday school classes with Pastor Mitzi, and co-teaching a number of short-term studies on biblical interpretation, prayer, spiritual gifts, and more. In terms of missions, he helped expand our Christmas Challenge to include multiple organizations, guided volunteers as we re-engaged with Habitat for Humanity, engaged with Family Promise in new ways, and began sending Carolina Rebuilding Ministry teams to Eastern NC.

We will miss his theological insights, good humor, and hospitality. Let’s gather to express our gratitude, share memories, and send Pastor Jon off with our blessings and best wishes.
