Semi-controlled chaos. I think that’s the best way to really describe what a preschool is like in the weeks before Christmas. And honestly, semi-controlled means we are all winning here.  Like one of our sweet teachers said, the classrooms look like holiday gift sweatshops.  These kiddos are cranking out crafts, projects, Christmas songs, decorations and prep for Mommies and Daddies, and having a blast. There’s paint and glitter as far as the eye can see.  Christmas Spirit Week was hit and I’ve had the pleasure of recording your sweet children singing and dancing to holiday favorites for our Chapel-less Christmas Chapel.  It’s fun, it’s busy, it’s a little crazy.  We know to lean into the crazy here at school.

This made me starting thinking, and let’s be honest. If you are anything like me and my house, semi-controlled chaos is about as good as it gets right now.  Christmas decorations scattered throughout, Christmas music on Alexa fighting with the noise from Dragon Rescue Riders Christmas special on the television (this is literally happening as I type), makeshift & homemade presents under the tree, and pleas for just one more Christmas bedtime story (no, please, go to bed!), opening just ONE present under the tree early (no, we need to practice patience!), daily countdowns and reminders that alas, it is NOT Christmas Eve.  PS – I don’t have presents under the tree yet.  That would indicate I have been shopping.  LOL

The point is, it all makes us all feel a little overwhelmed, a little nuts, and more than a little….chaotic.  But in the midst of it all, at school and at home, I believe that God, not our Elves-on-the-Shelves, is tapping us on our shoulders, reminding us that he is here to help keep our heads above the water.  I think God, not endless jingle bells, is whispering in our ears to lean into the crazy.  He knows that these moments are fleeting, he knows that these times are to be treasured, and he knows that these kids…well, they just need to be kids.  God is ready and waiting for us all to celebrate Jesus’ birth and the magic of Christmas, and if we let him, God helps us download the calm in the middle of the semi-controlled chaos, so we can enjoy the anticipation and build-up to this special time of year.

Nothing makes us happier than to spend these moments with your kids and help them bring a little Christmas magic into your own homes.  Have a great weekend, families.  Go lean into that chaos, and we’ll bring you more on Monday for another exciting and magical week of teaching and learning!
