Laura Hutchison

Nursery Coordinator

img_8528Laura has been active at Soapstone since 1988 when she joined with her parents. In the past 27 years she has served on Worship Committee, Music Council and Children’s Council. Laura also has sung in the choir, assisted with children’s music for more than 10 years, played handbells for 19 years, taught children’s Sunday School for 10 years, served as Youth Treasurer for five years, Confirmation partner twice, paid nursery worker, and now she is Nursery Co-Coordinator putting her love of children to good work.

She and her husband John wanted to be the first couple to get married in Soapstone when it moved from the Chapel to the Norwood Road location, but it was not finished in time. They were privileged to have Hope Morgan Ward (now our Bishop) marry them at Fairmont UMC.
Not long after, Hope convinced the young couple and another newly married couple that we would be great middle school youth workers. Thus started her love and ministry with kids. Laura loves working with the little ones now and cherishes that Soapstone gives all children a safe and loving environment so that their parents can participate in the life of our church through studies, activities and worship. In her position, she is always looking for more volunteers and paid youth workers. Another interesting fact about Laura is that she is also the Soapstone Wedding Coordinator.
Laura is married to John (who also serves as Sexton at Soapstone), and they have two children, Erin and Jackson. They live in Raleigh and Laura enjoys spending her free time with her family doing whatever activity is on the calendar each day.
