Laura HutchisonNursery Coordinator
Laura Hutchison has been a member of Soapstone since 1988 when she joined with her parents. After many years of volunteering in our music and children’s ministry, she now is Nursery Co-Coordinator putting her love of children to good work.
Laura has served on Worship Committee, Music Council and Children’s Council. She also has sung in the choir, assisted with children’s music for more than 10 years, and played handbells for 19 years. Her work with children and youth spans more than a decade as she taught children’s Sunday School, served as Youth Treasurer, has been a Confirmation partner several times, and worked as a paid nursery worker.
She and her husband John wanted to be the first couple to get married in Soapstone when it moved from the Chapel to the Norwood Road location, but it was not finished in time. They were privileged to have Hope Morgan Ward (now our Bishop) marry them at Fairmont UMC. Not long after, Hope convinced the young couple that they would be great middle school youth workers. Thus started Laura’s love and ministry with kids. She loves working with the little ones now and cherishes that Soapstone gives all children a safe and loving environment, so that their parents can participate in the life of our church through studies, activities and worship. In her position, she is always looking for more volunteers and paid youth workers. Another interesting fact about Laura is that she serves as our Soapstone Wedding Coordinator.
Laura is married to John, and they have two children, Erin and Jackson. They live in Raleigh and she enjoys spending her free time with her family doing whatever activity is on the calendar each day.
