John was born and raised in Raleigh and serves as sexton at Soapstone. He enjoys the role because it is behind the scenes and enables him to make Soapstone clean and inviting. John’s Christian roots run deep. Growing up in the Baptist church, it was his first Bible study with his Mom and younger brother that launched his trust in God and taught him to pray. He credits these practices for helping him become who he is today.
John has been an active member of Soapstone for more than 20 years and has served in children and youth ministries, several music groups, a Sunday School teacher and many more roles. He is an active Scout leader today in addition to serving as a regular liturgist in worship services.
John is a pilot and enjoys flying in his spare time. He also enjoys spending time with his family  wife, Laura, and two children Erin and Jackson. His dream one day is to help Erin open a bakery.
